Hotel Review- Fairfield Inn and Suites New York Midtown Manhattan/Penn Station

My mom and I recently returned from an overnight stay in New York City to attend the US Open, and we had a great time. Since we were taking the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) to and from the Open we once again decided to stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites New York Midtown Manhattan/Penn Station since it is very close to Penn Station.

We arrived in Midtown around 2:30pm and our room was available, which was good because it allowed us to freshen up before heading out to Queens. I booked a standard double room using my American Express points and it was more than sufficient for our short stay. The only things I wish it had were a mini fridge and microwave but I think those are included in the suites.

We were only in the room for about an hour or so before we made the short walk to Penn Station at the W 33rd and 8th Avenue entrance. When you use that exit you can actually see the hotel across the street so as two women walking back to the hotel close to midnight it is nice not having to walk very far or have to spend money on a taxi/uber.

We were pretty much only in the hotel to sleep and have a base in the city and this hotel is perfect for that. The receptionists were very friendly and we had no complaints about the service or room. The view was probably the worst we’ve ever had but we weren’t there for the view so it wasn’t an issue.

When we arrived back to the hotel after the Open I requested a late checkout for the following morning and they were able to give that to us. The hotel provides a complimentary hot breakfast but the quality seemed to decrease from the last time we were there.

This is our second time staying at this hotel, and for our purposes it served us well. If we go to the US Open again I expect that we will once again stay here. However, If I were not going to be using the LIRR I would choose another hotel because for me the location is the main selling point, not the actual hotel. The room rates are reasonable and the room size was fine for two people. Overall, I would recommend this hotel and think it is a good choice for those looking for reasonably priced accommodation in Midtown close to Penn Station.
